Halfway Down the Stairs

a literary magazine for families to share

-- Links --

Here are some links, selected by the editor of Halfway Down the Stairs, to other websites about children's literature and childhood. Be sure to ask your parents for permission before you click!

Sparrow Tree Square - If you haven't already visited HDS's sister magazine, Sparrow Tree Square, check it out! Every month, there's a new issue featuring classic literary selections and original content for intermediate- and advanced-level readers.

Highlights Kids - Even if you don't subscribe to Highlights, you can still enjoy content from back issues online. There are stories to read, crafts to make, and favorite features like the Timbertoes and Hidden Pictures.

Antique Books Library - This website was granted permission by Little Golden Books to publish twenty of their classic stories online for free. You can view photographs of the actual pages of the books, many of which are out-of-print and hard to find.

V&A Museum of Childhood - On this site from a British museum, you can learn all about children's lives in the past and present. There are also fun activities to do both on and off of the computer.

Hoagies' Kids and Teens - This site is a treasure trove of book, movie, toy, software, and website recommendations for gifted kids. (And if you're the parent or teacher of a gifted kid, check out Hoagies' grown-ups' sections, too.)

Pooh Corner - This fun fan site is devoted to Winnie the Pooh, featuring songs, pictures, biographies, online activities, poems, and more. The site focuses more on Disney's Pooh, but there is Classic Pooh content as well.
